Dear Parents/Guardians,
Welcome to our 2020-2021 school year. We are happy to announce that we have had a very smooth start to the new school year. The students always amaze us on how quickly they adapt to new situations.
Labour Day Holiday: The school will be closed on Monday, September 7th.
Please Note: Due to Covid-19 and the protocols put in place, school photos are postponed, as well as Meet the teacher/Interviews. We hope to have these at a later time. Attached is an updated Annual Calendar.
School Fees: A notice will go out later regarding school fees. Please stay tuned.
Important Forms: Attached are the Emergency Health Form and Local Excursion Form. Please fill these out and return them by. Kindly read and sign these forms and have them returned to school with your child by Tuesday, September 8th.
Professional Development Days: There are no classes for students on: Friday, September 18th
Daycare will be available on this PD day, if we have a minimum of 6 registrations at a cost of $14.00 each student. Registration form will be sent later.
Daycare at Queen E available 5 days per week:

Cost of daycare program per child:

Sporadic users: $ 10.00 per afternoon and $14.00 per PD Day
Bus Times: Kindly have your child at their bus stop 10 minutes prior to their pick-up time. Please be aware that at the beginning of the school year, times may be adjusted. At all times of the school year it is common for busses to run a little early or a little late.
Bus Parking Zone: This is a reminder that there is no parking allowed in the bus lane or along the side of the road. The bus lane and road need to be kept open for busses at all time. Please use the parking lot at the side of the school. Our parking lot has been expanded, so it is now safe to drop off and pick up in that parking lot.
Reminder: Long hair must be tied back. The threat of head lice in elementary schools is always present. As a preventive measure, if your child has long hair, please tie it back. Also remind your child not to share hair accessories. Please check your child’s hair weekly at home.
Regular School Hours: Unless a student is pre-registered in daycare, morning arrival time is 8:00 a.m.Students are not to be dropped off prior to 8:00 a.m., there is no supervision prior to that time. Students walking or biking to school should time their arrivals after 8:00 a.m. as well. Dismissal is 2:30 p.m. Parents picking up their children after school are asked to wait outside and wait for their child to meet them. There is no supervision of children after 2:30 p.m.
Visitors in the School: In order to maintain a safe school and a quiet learning environment for all our students, all parents and visitors are required to make an appointment. If you wish to withdraw your child from school during school hours, please call the school or send an email indicating the reason for leaving as well as the time you will be arriving. Visitors are asked to wait inside the front doors while a staff member gets your child to meet you at the office. No visitor will be permitted into a classroom without prior permission, classroom visits should be prearranged with the teacher. Masks are mandatory.
Absences: If your child is absent please call the school and leave a message with the reason for the absence. Regular attendance and punctuality is important for a student’s success. Please help us by getting your child to school every day and on time. Remember children who arrive late often miss the instructional portion of the lesson therefore making it difficult for them to catch up.
Absences hinder learning and contribute to low academic achievement. This is a fact supported by a great deal of research. This challenge will be a major target for us again this year. We need parents, students and staff to work together to improve our attendance rates. Only then will we be able to affect learning and improve success rates. I look forward to your cooperation in this matter and trust we can eliminate this problem together. Parents are asked to call the school before 8:30a.m. to inform Lisa of any absence or simply leave a message on the phone or send an e-mail to queenelizabeth@wqsb.qc.ca.
No changes to the end of day (unless it is an emergency) should be made after 1pm.
Physically and Mentally Prepared for School: Research is very clear on the subject of mental preparedness in children. Students need to arrive at school well-rested and need to follow a healthy diet for optimum learning to occur. I would ask that children have a good solid night’s sleep every school night. Also, in keeping with our healthy school philosophy and to improve the learning at the school, I am asking that you check your child’s lunch kit to ensure soft drinks, potato chips, chocolate bars or other junk food are not coming to school. Healthy snacks and lunches will lead to better physical development and contribute to greater academic success. I thank you in advance for your continued cooperation in this matter.
